Where Americans Don’t Go: the Mingan Archipelago (Canada)

In 2005 while visiting Newfoundland, I met three friendly elderly ladies towards the beginning of the trip who enthusiastically recommended visiting the Mingan Archipelago, along the northern coast of Saint Lawrence in the Province of Québec. They handed me a tourist brochure.

Five years later I managed to take the trip with my friend Julie. We borrowed a tent, drove to Montréal one rainy day, then to Québec City, where we spent another night. Then we proceeded up the coast.  I was astonished at the number of fascinating things along the way, that I had had not the least inkling of: the artist colony of ….., Saginay Bay, which one crossed by free ferry,
